Winflector Basics part 7 – How to access client files from the application?

March 14, 2015 by Winflector Expert Leave a Comment

Winflector supports file mapping. This means that you can work on your local files through the application published by Winflector Server. Of course, you can also work on server files you have access to. If you want to use client files though, you need to enable it on the server.

How to enable file mapping in Winflector Server?

  • Open Winflector Server.
  • Go to Preferences.
  • Go to Options.
  • Uncheck the Disable filesystem mapping box.
  • Save the configuration.
  • Disconnect the configurator.
  • Restart the server.

Once the general file mapping is enabled, you can still disable file mapping for individual applications in the Applications window. Just click on the application, press the Edit selected application button, and check the Disable filesystem mapping box. Update, then Save and close.

How to use local files in the Winflector Client?

It is very simple, though it might not be obvious for a first time user. Say you want to access a file with a path C:\Users\chris\Desktop\image.bmp from the server. It will be accessible at the path C:\WfMount\C\Users\chris\Desktop\image.bmp. In this case, you’ll want to navigate there within an Open dialog or simply use that path.

The general mapping scheme is that a file at path path on drive X will map onto C:\WfMount\X\path on the server.

That’s it.
